so in the midst of sickness tim and i haven't had a chance to share a funny, and frustrating story, that happened a few days ago...
tim, charlie and i decided it sounded fun to go to a coffee shop for dessert and to play cards. so we were minding our own business enjoying our iced coffee and peanut butter cookies, playing hearts when after an hour and a half one of the workers comes up to us and tells us we are not allowed to play cards. what?!! first, we have been playing cards for over an hour. second, charlie just ordered some french fries - so it's not like we were free loading. so after a moment of confusion the only thing that was clear was we were no longer allowed to play cards. tim asks to speak to a manager, who unfortunately had gone home for the evening. after some frustrated discussion among the three of us, tim again confronts (not care-fronts - this was strictly confronting) the worker who originally approached us. tim asked, "so we aren't allowed to play cards... just read books and computer?..." "yes," the worker says. "why???" questions tim. "because this is a real coffee shop and we don't allow games," mr worker replies.
a real coffee shop?!! what the heck? what kind of reason is that? oh my goodness. we were bummed. needless to say, next time we are in himalayan java tim is going to talk to the manager about it. no games?! and i also was a bit confused because this particular coffee shop also sells all kinds of food, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages (i think - i thought one more item was helpful for dramatic affect).
and that night - well we did as you would expect. charlie ate his french fries and we promptly left and returned home to finish or game. haha

If anyone would know what a REAL coffee shop is, it's you guys. If anyone would know the appropriate vs. inappropriate coffee shop behavior/activity, it's you guys. How weird. I hope you get to talk to the manager sometime to get the final say on why you can't (or can) play games.
not gabe.

Ha-ha! Yeah, Tim usually care-fronts me when there's something he wants to talk about; I'd like to see (see, not experience) the confronting.
So, at the real coffeeshop, do you think you could play computer games? Drinking games? Maybe there's some Nepalese faux-pas you didn't know you were breaking...
Anyway, it makes for a great story to read on a Friday morning.

ok, my curiosity has the best of me....I want to know why you can't play games....it almost sounds like mr. worker waited for the manager to leave to tell y'all to stop playing games. YOu have to follow up on this story! =D
ha ha ha. love your stories. love that tim did not care-front but confronted. that made me laugh out loud.
well, at first I was confused when they said you weren't allowed to play cards...but then when they explained that it was a "real" coffee shop it all made perfect sense=)!
